Weihnachtskleid | Christmas dress

Fröhliche Weihnachten! Ich hoffe, ihr genießt die freien Tage mit Freunden und Familie. Ich melde mich heute mit meinem Weihnachtskleid, einem Deer & Doe Sureau Kleid.

Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy the days with friends and family. I have to show you my Christmas dress, a Deer & Doe Sureau dress.

An diesem Schnitt habe ich einige Änderungen vorgenommen. Ich habe oft, eigentlich bei fast jedem Schnitt, das Problem, dass es unter dem Arm etwas kneift. Also habe ich dieses Mal den Armausschnitt etwas größer gemacht und den Ärmel entsprechend angepasst. Dazu bin ich dieser und dieser Anleitung gefolgt. Daraufhin war das erste Probeteil (ja, ich habe ein Probeteil genäht!) am Ärmel viel zu weit! Außerdem gefielen mir die leicht gepufften Ärmel überhaupt nicht an mir. Davon habe ich leider kein Foto, aber glaubt mir, es sah nicht gut aus… Also musste etwas Weite aus dem Ärmel und der zusätzliche Stoff an der Schulterkuppe musste verschwinden. Ich habe eine Vergleichsmessung am Armausschnitt meiner Tova Bluse gemacht um zu ermitteln, wie das Längenverhältnis zwischen Armausschnitt und Ärmel entlang der Schulternaht sein muss, um den Ärmel ohne Raffung einsetzten zu können. Dann habe ich den Ärmel nach diesen zwei Anleitungen “neu” konstruiert bzw. angepasst. Er sah dann etwa so aus:

I made some changes to the original pattern. I usually have the problem that my garments are nipping under the armpit. This time I lowered the armhole and adjusted the sleeve accordingly, using this and this tutorial. I made a muslin (yes, I really did!) and the sleeves were way too wide! Besides I really didn’t like the gathered sleeve caps on me. I can’t show you a picture but believe me, it didn’t look good… So I had to make the sleeves less wide and remove the excess fabric at the sleeve cap. I measured the armhole and the sleeve at my Tova blouse as I needed to know how much ease I need for a “normal” sleeve. After that I “constructed” a new sleeve respectively changed the sleeve pattern piece using these two tutorials. It looked like this:

Sich mit der Schnittkonstruktion auseinander zu setzen hat wirklich Spaß gemacht. Ich habe ja bisher erst an der Oberfläche gekratzt, aber da werde ich nächstes Jahr sicher tiefer einsteigen. Und natürlich musste ein zweites Probeteil her (ja, habe nicht nur eins, sondern zwei Probeteile gemacht!) um die Änderungen zu prüfen. Das sah dann so aus:

I had a lot of fun reading about and trying my hands at pattern construction. I just dipped my toe in but I’m sure there will be more of that next year. And of course I had to make a second muslin (yes, I really did two muslins here!) to see if my changes were successful. It looked like this:

Da ist noch etwas zu viel Stoff am Oberarm, aber ich bin zufrieden. Immerhin kann ich die Arme frei bewegen, das ist ein großer Erfolg! Daraufhin ging es dann an den richtigen Stoff. Dabei habe ich das Oberteil noch 1 cm verlängert und die Abnäher etwas ausgelassen, weil ich Angst hatte, es könnte sonst etwas eng sein. Außerdem habe ich, anders als in der Anleitung beschrieben, alle Belege mit Vlieseline verstärkt und einen nahtverdeckten Reißverschluss eingenäht, weil das schöner aussieht und viel einfacher zu nähen ist als der normale Reißverschluss. Der Herr des Hauses hatte außerdem die Idee, ein Gummiband in die Ärmelsäume einzuziehen, was mir auch gut gefällt.

There is still too much fabric at the upper arm, but I’m fine with that. At least I can move my arms, that alone is a success! So I went on with cutting in the right fabric. I lengthened the bodice by 1 cm and made the darts a bit less deep as I was afraid the finished dress could be a bit too tight. Also I interfaced the button placket and the facings and used an invisible zipper as I think they look neater and are way more easy to sew in. Monsieur had the idea to use a rubber band at the sleeve hems and I really like the look.

Wie sich herausgestellt hat ist das Oberteil bzw. das ganze Kleid etwas zu weit, daher der Gürtel. Was ich als nächstes lernen muss, ist der Umgang mit meinem Hohlkreuz! Da ist immer zu viel Stoff, was man auch auf den Fotos sieht. Vorteil: Das Kleid war an Heiligabend auch nach dem Essen noch sehr gemütlich. :) Ich wünsche euch noch frohe Feiertage und einen guten Start ins neue Jahr!

Turned out the bodice or better the whole dress is a bit too wide, therefore the belt. The next thing I need to learn is a swayback adjustment as there is definitely too much fabric in this area. I think I would like to make a bodice block. Have you tried that already? Please tell me if you have any advice. But in this case the benefit of wearing a dress that’s too wide was the ability of eating all the food at Christmas Eve and still be comfortable. :) I wish you lovely holidays, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
