Grainline Studio Outfit

So, jetzt ist es passiert, ich bin ein Grainline Studio – Fan geworden! Heute gibt es also ein Outfit, dass aus zwei Grainline Studio Schnitten besteht, ein Moss Rock und ein Linden Sweatshirt. Den Pulli habe ich eigentlich schon im letzten Jahr gemacht und seit dem reichlich getragen, aber der Rock ist tatsächlich mein erstes Stück aus diesem Jahr. :)

Now it’s offical, I’m a Grainline Studio fan! Today I have a complete Grainline Studio outfit for you, it’s a Moss skirt and a Linden sweatshirt. Basicly the Linden is a 2014 make which got worn a lot scince I finished it, but the Moss skirt is my first finished item of 2015. :)

 

Ich starte mit dem Linden Sweatshirt weil das einfach ist: ich liebe es! Es ist schlicht, vielseitig und absolut schnell genäht. Dieses ist aus French Terry* von Fabric.com (leider ausverkauft) und ich finde das schwarz-weiß-graue Blumenmuster wirklich toll! Insgesamt würde ich sagen, dieser Pulli ist bequem, klassisch und trotzdem ein Bisschen schick. [* Wo wir grad dabei sind, kann mir jemand sagen ob es eine deutsche Bezeichnung für French Terry -also Frotte-Innenseite mit Jersey-Außenseite- gibt?!]

Let’s start with the Linden sweatshirt because that’s easy: I love it! It’s simple, versatile and what I would call a “quick sew”. This one is made of comfy french terry knit, bought at Fabric.com (I think it’s sold out), and I really like the monochrome flowers. I would categorize this one as a comfortable but classy and a bit chic sweater. Total win!

 

 

Das einzige kleine Manko ist das Bündchen. Der Stoff besteht zu 100% aus Baumwolle, was auch das eigentlich Kaufkriterium war, aber leider hat es die Eigenschaft, sehr schnell auszuleiern. Ich denke ich werde es bei Gelegenheit nochmal abmachen und gegen anderes ersetzten. Merke: Bündchen braucht ein bisschen Poly/Spandex/Lycra/irgendwas um die Form zu halten!

Unfortunately the ribbing choice wasn’t a good one. It’s 100% cotton ribbing, which was the reason why I bought it, but that’s also why it tends to get baggy after a really short time of wearing. I think I will rib it off at some time and  replace it. Note: ribbing needs a bit of Poly/Spandex/Lycra/something to keep the mold!

 

 

Und nun zum Moss Rock. Laut Größentabelle lag ich zwischen zwei Größen, Größe 10 an der Taille und 12 an der Hüfte. Also habe ich alle Teile entsprechend ausgeschnitten und zwischen den beiden Größen vermittelt (was nicht so einfach war am Vorderteil und an den Taschen). Ich habe kein Probestück genäht (weil ich das nie mache – ich weiß ich sollte das mal überdenken), aber alles hat wunderbar gepasst. Der Stoff ist ein weicher, olive grüner Cord.

And now on to the Moss skirt. The size chart told me I’m a 10 at the waist and a 12 at the hips, so I traced off the pattern, grading between both sizes (whish was a bit complicated at the front and the pockets). I didn’t make a muslin (because I never do muslins – should overthink that by time) but all went good. The fabric is a soft corduroy in a nice olive green.

 

 

Ich hatte kurz Probleme beim Bund, weil ich nicht wusste, auf welches Teil die Vliseline aufgebügelt werden musste. Das Schnittteil ist nicht spiegelgleich, ein Ende ist etwas stärker geschwungen als das andere und ich war nicht sicher, ob es eine Rolle spielt, welches ich nehme. Genau weiß ich es auch immer noch nicht, aber zum Glück gibt es viele Bilder in der Anleitung und ich habe mich mit etwas Nachdenken scheinbar für das richtige entschieden (falls es ein falsches gab… ;) ).

I had some problems with the waistband. I was unsure on which one I had to iron the interfacing since the ends of the waistband aren’t equal. Luckily there are a lot of pictures in the instructions and a I think i’ve chosen the right one (if there is a right one, still not sure… ;) ).

Das war mein erstes Kleidungsstück mit Reißverschluss, dafür ist es ganz gut geworden (allerdings nicht gut genug für eine Nahaufnahme vom Reißverschluss ;) ). Ich habe alle Nähte auf der normalen Nähmaschine genäht und dann mit der Overlock versäubert. Das ist zwar etwas mehr Arbeit, aber ich finde es so einfacher die richtige Nahtzugabe einzuhalten. Und ich finde es sieht auch noch ein bisschen ordentlicher aus, irgendwie.

This was my first zipper on a wearable garment and for that it’s not so bad (althought not good enough for a zipper close-up shot ;) ). I sewed everything with my sewing machine and serged the seam allowance in another step. It needs a bit more time, but for me it’s easier to catch the right seam allowance on my sewing machine and it lookes a bit cleaner inside, I think.

 

 

Beim nächsten Mal werde ich den Rock komplett in Größe 12 nähen. Er ist so konstruiert, dass er etwa 5 cm unterhalb der natürlichen Taille sitzt, was etwas höher ist, als ich es normalerweise gewohnt bin und mag. Wenn der Bund etwas weiter ist, kann ich den Rock ohne Probleme etwas tiefer ziehen und er würde gleichzeitig quasi ein Stück länger. Ansonsten habe ich nichts zu mäkeln. Das sind zwei tolle Schnitte, die super zu mir und meinem Kleiderschrank passen. Ich bin neugierig, habt ihr schon mal einen Grainline Studio Schnitt genäht? Seit ihr ebenfalls Fans?

Next time I will sew the Moss in a straight size 12. It’s constructed to sit 2″ below the natural waist, which is a bit higher than I’m used to and normally like to wear. If the waistband is a bit wider I can easily pull it down a bit, which means it would be a bit longer, too. Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about. Two lovely patterns that fits perfectly in my life and closet. I’m curious, have you already tried the Grainline Studio patterns? Are you a fan?
